* Active Risk Management Services and its inspectorate is led through  Jean Wenger, with over 25 years in the industry and as the immediate past technical director of the influential National Playing Fields Association, Jean is one of the most knowledgeable authorities on play and sports standards within Europe.

* Active Risk Management Services is involved at the highest levels of safety assessment  advising: national bodies, major companies and charities and other organisations both in the UK and oversees, including government departments, embassies and the Health and Safety Executive

* The need and initiative for the service was originally generated by requests from former PE colleagues and associates for advice on the interpretation and application of risk management and assessment within their school departments. In particular, the environment the activities take place in and the condition of the equipment used

On the basis of in-depth discussions with PE teachers, PE advisors, Local Authority Education Health & Safety Managers, BAALPE and The Scottish School of Sports Studies at Strathclyde University, the inspection service has progressed to a position where its systems are now able to be provided throughout the UK.

The Reporting System – Xeles
The main factors, in addition to professional and competent inspectors, found during the early days of the company’s development were that the reporting mechanisms between the PE department, the school management and the Education Authority required significant improvement.

There were just too many loopholes, problems found were not being appropriately addressed and most worryingly, problems were disappearing from view, only to reoccur at the next annual inspection.
To address these and the concerns of operators to demonstrate that their staff have carried out their responsibilities an internet web based reporting package was developed – Xeles.

This both generates inspection reports and empowers the operator or management to monitor, oversee and prioritise with an effective audit trail. Xeles, provides instant and accurate risk assessment, risk analysis, report generation, maintenance resolution tracking. It enables if desired, summary analysis of findings across all of the estates of an entire organisation.

Benefits include the identification and implementation of best practice, simplifying of audit procedures, inspection efficiency in recording and reporting of issues identified as potentially hazardous to the user.
Xeles Resource Centre provides in addition to its FAQs detailed support documentation and links that cover both sports, risk assessment and play matters. This powerful information resource provides users with instant access to wide ranges of useful information. Message boards for across the range or specific to one client’s staff are also available.

Xeles users are provided with a reporting and recording facility which is simple to use and provides effective risk management. In addition, they have a complete inventory and risk management evaluation system.

Problem – a finger or hand could be crushed by the opening of the gate. Hazard – a finger could be amputated Severity 5, Likelihood 3, Risk Priority Level = High. Remedial Advice - order permanent repair within 3 months and continue to use
Xeles utilizes extensive use of digital imagery enabling all facilities and items to be photographed and recorded within the system. This visual reporting enables many problems to be clearly understood and managed from the office without time consuming site visits. Repair instructions and subsequent checks are also easier as the client can input their own data and photos to record the final result or as necessary demonstrate replacement need to the budget holder.

Our independence of any supplier/maintenance company allows an operator to focus their resources where they will be most effective.

Trained Criminal Record Bureau compliant professional inspectors will conduct each inspection. The reports will, in particular demonstrate the significant advantages, particularly the reconciliation systems, between our approach and those of a basic maintenance check
